For host employers

Host a student and help shape the next generation of professionals

Hosting a student is simpler than you might think. We match you with a prepared student, provide the paperwork and stay in touch throughout.

Why host

Good for your team, good for your industry

Talent

Meet future employees early

A placement is a low-risk way to see how a student works before a graduate role opens.

Skills

Fresh skills and perspectives

Students bring current knowledge from their course and new ways of approaching problems.

People

Develop your supervisors

Supervising a student builds leadership and coaching skills in your staff.

Community

Strengthen your industry

Placements help close skills gaps in your field and build your reputation with education providers.

What hosting involves

Your part of the placement

  • Meaningful tasks linked to the student's learning outcomes
  • A named supervisor who meets with the student each week
  • A safety induction on the first day
  • A short evaluation at the end of the placement

Students on placements that are a required part of their course are on a vocational placement under the Fair Work Act. These placements can be unpaid, and they must not replace a paid role.

What InternLink provides

  • Screened, prepared students matched to your field
  • The placement agreement and induction checklist
  • A supervisor briefing before the student starts
  • Check-ins in week one, midway and at the end
  • A named consultant to call if anything comes up

Questions from employers

What hosts ask us

Does it cost anything to host a student?
No. Our services are contracted by the education provider, so hosting is free for employers.
Do we have to pay the student?
Placements that are a required part of the student's course are vocational placements and can be unpaid. You may choose to offer a stipend.
Who insures the student?
Students are normally covered by their education provider's student placement insurance. We confirm cover before each placement starts.
How much time does supervision take?
Plan for a short meeting with the student each week, plus the time to set and review their tasks.
What if the placement is not working out?
Call your InternLink consultant. We will work with you and the student to resolve it, or end the placement and support the student to move on.
